Very Rare & Remarkable Fine Persian Ferahan. Made of all natural, vegetable dye, hand woven, hand spun, baby lamb's wool pile on cotton foundation. Towards the end of the 19th century, carpet merchants in Tabriz in northern Persia began to enjoy strong demand for carpets from the west. To meet demand, by 1875 they had organized rug weaving workshops in and around the town of Arak, formerly known as Sultan-Abad in north western part of Persia. by 1883 western companies had also established their own presence in the town of Ferahan in particular, Ziegler and Company was the first and the most important, producing rugs for many years to come with western tastes in mind. This charming Ferahan is a perfect example of rugs produced around the earlier part of 20th century in the town of Ferahan. Size: 6 feet 6 inches X 5 feet 1 inches. Country of Origin: Iran.
