This lot features a very rare and first edition (1883) of the French title, "EXPLORATION DE LA RÉGION DU GRAND LAC DES OURS". In English the title translates to, "Exploration of a French Missionary in the Canadian Arctic". The Book is illustrated and features two pull out maps. The author, Émile Petitot (1838-1916), was a French missionary, notable Canadian Northwest cartographer, ethnologist, geographer, linguist, and writer. The book is in French and features a leather look hardcover with gilded lettering on the spine. The book measures 4 7/8" W x 7 1/4" T and is in excellent condition.
