In the Summer of 1934 a limited order of daggers was placed with the firm of Carl Eickhorn in Solingen for a variation on the 1933 Pattern SS Dagger. These daggers, presented personally by SS Chief Heinrich Himmler to a group of 200 SS men, were specifically to commemorate their contributions to the success of the Night of Long Knives, the June 30th purge of the SA. Numbers vary between accounts but the "Rohm Putsch" or "Kolibri" as it was known in-country claimed at least 83 lives, including those of SA Chief Ernst Rohm, several Reichstag members and Gustav Ritter von Kahr a revenge murder for his role in foiling the Beer Hall Putsch as a member of the Bavarian Triumvirate. This purge was a significant event in the history of Germany and the Second World War, as it liquidated many of Hitler's key rivals within and outside the Nazi Party and freed him to act on his terrible ambitions, marked the decline of the SA as a major force in German politics, served as a major stepping stone in the evolution of the SS from a mere bodyguard unit to the force of terror that plagued the Party's enemies at home and abroad, and cemented Himmler's position as Hitler's right hand and one of the most powerful men in the country. Measuring 13 5/8 inches overall, the 8 5/8 inch blade is etched "Meine Ehre heisst Treue" (My Honor is Loyalty) on the obverse, and "In Herzlicher Freundschaft (In Heartfelt Friendship) H. Himmler" on the reverse leading to the Eickhorn logo. Black hardwood grip with eagle inlay, SS runes and nickel finished guard and pommel, stamped "2" next to the blade and "H *E" on the underside. With a black finished nickel fitted sheath and a black leather hanger.

Excellent with some light handling marks overall. A few minor scabbard scuffs are present on the blade, as well as a thin crack above the SS medallion. The sheath is also excellent with a few small dents and minor wear on the finish. An incredibly rare artifact from a critical moment in world history.
