Very Rare Early American Broadside, American Taxation, Or the spirit of Seventy-six exemplified in a song written in the golden days which tried men's Souls. One page, 10.75" x 18", circa early 19th century. The flames of American nationalistic fervor were fanned by verse such as that found on this leviathan of a song-sheet. The reasons for colonial discontent are first outlined in stanza form. With the American cause thus justified, the song recounts glorious moments during the Revolution, all the while chastising Britain's George while praising America's George. A rollicking, yet concise, summary of our national self-image during the earliest years of the republic. Loss to one corner and a few splits. The paper, however, is only lightly toned and the type remains crisp and dark. An attractive example of a broadside that seldom appears on the market. Very good condition.
