The firm of Bawo & Dotter was established in New York City in the 1860s to import porcelain, especially Limoges, into the USA. In the early 1870s, they established The Elite Works in Limoges to decorate porcelain made by other factories. Their product lines included tableware, decorative pieces, and trinket boxes.

Porcelain production slowed down considerably during World War I, but shortly after the war, Bawo & Dotter bought the William Guerin company (which had itself just purchased the Pouyat company), and the company became known as Guerin-Pouyat-Elite, apparently continuing use of all three company marks. The company closed in 1932.

The marks on this large and exquisite Elite vase date it back to the period between 1896 and 1920. The body of the vase is oval in shape, with two handles and a flared rim. The tops of the handles and the rim are trimmed with gold. It is hand painted with soft pastel pink and yellow roses against a very pale blue background.

The vase stands 14 inches tall, and measures 11.5 inches across at the widest part. It is marked on the bottom with the Elite mark, and is in excellent undamaged condition.
