Winchester Model 1873 Carbine manufactured in 1883. This carbine has the Third Model features that include receiver with concealed trigger pin, integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated edges. The round barrel and full-length magazine have two barrel bands. The barrel has a block-mounted front sight located behind the upper barrel band and a dovetail mounted folding leaf carbine rear sight. A staple-fastened saddle ring is located on the left side of the receiver. The carbine-style buttplate has a sliding brass trap. The barrel, magazine, barrel bands and receiver are blued and the hammer, lever, and buttplate have a color case-hardened finish. The stock and forearm are straight grain black walnut with an oil finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "WINCHESTER"S-REPEATING-ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT./KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860." in two lines between the lower barrel band and the rear sight. "44 CAL" is roll-stamped on the top of the barrel between the rear sight and the receiver and "44 CAL" is stamped in script letters on the bottom of the cartridge elevator. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped "- WINCHESTER MODEL 1873-" in fancy letters. The serial number, "135295A" is roll-stamped in script letters on the lower receiver tang between the lever latch and the rear tang screw.
BBL: 20 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 44 WCF
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 153295A
Condition: Very fine. The carbine retains 75% of the original blue finish. 80% of the original blue finish is present on the barrel and magazine. There is some slight finish wear on the barrel muzzle. The barrel bands have some finish loss on high points. The finish is thin on the sides of the receiver in front of the side plates and on the upper receiver and dust cover. The hammer and loading lever have most of the subdued casehardened finish. The bottom of the buttplate has a silver-gray patina. The bore is mirror bright. The barrel and receiver markings are clear. The stock and forearm are both in fine condition with moderate handling wear. Mechanically excellent. This is a very fine example of a Winchester Model 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine with much of original finish.
