This is a very fine example of a Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army revolver that was manufactured somewhere between 1875 and 1889. The revolver has a full nickel plated finish with two-piece varnished walnut grips. The caliber, 44-40 WCF, is designated by the "44" marking stamped on the left side of the trigger guard bow. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the one-line legend "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION.N.Y.U.S.A. The serial number "37" is stamped on the lower left side of the frame beneath the grip. "37" is written in pencil on the inside of both grips. The butt is not fitted with the optional lanyard ring. Produced by Remington to compete with the Colt Single Action Army, the Model 1875 Remington saw only modest government sales; however 639 nickel-plated Model 1875 Remington revolvers were purchased by the U.S. Department of the Interior for issue to Indian Police.
