This is an example of a Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army revolver that was manufactured between 1875 and 1879. The revolver has a full nickel plated finish with two-piece walnut grips. The serial number "96" is stamped on the left side of the butt underneath the grip. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the one-line legend "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILLION. N.Y. U.S.A." This later production revolver is not fitted with the lanyard ring on the butt which was standard on earlier revolvers.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 44 CF
Finish: nickel
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 96
Condition: Very fine to near excellent. The revolver retains 90% of the original nickel plated finish. The finish has some minor flaking on the edges the ejector housing, the lower left side of the frame, on the face and leading edge of the cylinder and on the sides of the hammer. The grips retain 75% of the original varnish. The barrel markings are clear. The action is crisp but the hammer will not hold at half-cock. This is a "well above the rest" example of an untouched original nickel plated Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army revolver.
