If you are a collector of Canadian Military rifles this will make a centerpiece addition. As noted in Edgecombes work, in July 1895 Minister for Militia and Defense A.R.Dickey, directed the High Commission to order 1400 of the Metford rifles from Imperial stores. They were shipped 23rd October of that year, and a mix of Mk1* and MKII.
The purchase was not popular and the rifles were soon superseded by the Magazine Lee Enfield. Thus the Metfords mostly remained in store.
This example shows no evidence of issue and exceptional condition.
Correctly M&D marked 1158 / 1895, and exhibiting the British sold from service. Manufactured 1893, Barrel is 95%+ Blue with isolated losses near nosecap. Bore is excellent. Action is same with only fine trace freckling. Original attached Magazine, Sights and action serials match but bolt does not. Wood is excellent, having only isolated small marks and very crisp Cartouches and inspector stamps. S/N 6258D
