Very Fine James Rodgers Sheffield  Superior American Hunting Knife  with Sheath and Chatelaine
Produced after 1682. Blade is 9 1/8" long, 1 1/3" wide and 1/5" thick, with a 4 1/2" false edge, spear point, "Superior American/ Hunting Knife" etched on the left side, "CAST STEEL/ BOWIE KNIFE" stamp, and "JAMES RODGERS/ ROYAL/ CUTLERY/ SHEFFIELD" on the left ricasso. Silver oval crossguard with ball quillions, stamped floral pattern collar, checkered horn grip and seashell pommel. In a glass topped hardwood display case with a silver fitted floral pattern leather sheath and a ladies chatelaine, with five chains, silver and gold inlay and simulated gem studding.

Very fine, with well defined etching on the blade, scattered patches of spotting, and mild handling marks. Silver is excellent, with some light dents. The grip shows a crack running down the right side, with sharp checkering. Sheath is also very good, wit some minor scuffs and the start of an aged color on the silver. Chatelaine is excellent, with some minor handling marks. Case is very fine, with minor scuffs, bent latch and mild scratches.
