This example was manufactured in 1897. There is a raised ramp front blade sight and a folding leaf rear sight with a curved base graduated to 6 on the left side and ladder graduated 7 to 20 with a "C" in the upper right hand corner. There were only 20,000 manufactured. The straight grip walnut stock has a boxed "JSA/1897" cartouche on the left side of the wrist, a "P" proof on the underside and a "C.B." next to it. There is also a saddle ring on the left side of the wrist and the steel buttplate has a trapdoor with an original cleaning kit inside.

Very fine, 85% of the original blue finish remains with some muzzle wear, some scattered minor scratches, some scattered minor dings and some minor patches of freckling. Much of the original case color patterns remain with most having turned a silvery gray patina. The stock is also very fine with some scratches and dings with the cartouche and proof still sharp. Mechanically excellent.
