This Colt Model 1860 Army revolver was manufactured in 1863. This commercial production revolver has a color casehardened frame, loading lever and hammer, high polish blue barrel, cylinder, back strap, and silver-plated brass trigger guard. The one-piece walnut grip has a varnished, ''piano'' finish. The barrel has a nickel-silver front sight blade and is roll-stamped: "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" in one line. The three screw frame has shoulder stock cuts in the recoil shields. The left side of the frame is stamped, "COLTS/PATENT" in two lines. The rebated cylinder is roll-engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene and has a high polish blue finish. "COLTS PATENT NO./PATENTED SEPT. 10th 1850" is stamped along the center of the cylinder and "ENGAGED 10 MAY 1843" is roll-stamped along the outside edge of the cylinder. The full serial number "149,214" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The cylinder was originally stamped with the partial serial number "4755" and has been re-number "9214". The cylinder serial number is a factory re-stamp. All of the other visible serial numbers match. An "S" factory inspection mark is stamped next to the serial number on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap. (Denotes shoulder stock which is not with revolver.) The left shoulder of the trigger guard is marked "44 CAL".

Gauge: 44 percussion
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 149214
Condition: Very fine. The revolver barrel retains 80% of the high polish, commercial, blue finish. The cylinder has 40% of the blue finish and nearly all of the roll-engraved battle scene. Four of the cylinder safety pins are intact; two pins are battered and the percussion nipples have some light flash pitting. The blued iron back strap has faded to a dove gray patina. The frame, hammer and loading lever retain nearly 95% of the casehardened finish with fiery case colors. The trigger guard retains 80% of the silver-plated finish. The revarnished grip is in fine condition and retains nearly half of the finish. Wear is limited to some minor dents and handling marks on the lower edges of the grip. All of the markings are sharp. The revolver action is crisp and functions well. This is an exceptional example of a Colt Civil War Model 1860 Army Percussion revolver.
