Very Fine Cased Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with Accessories
Produced in 1858, this is a very good example of a factory cased Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver. Brass cone and hammer notch sights, with the top of the barrel marked "{ADDRESS SAML COLT / NEW YORK CITY}" and the left side of the frame marked "COLTS / PATENT". The cylinder is roll engraved with the stage coach hold-up scene as well as "COLTS PATENT / No 137355" in two panels. The complete serial number is marked on the cylinder, barrel lug, frame, and grip straps, with matching partial numbers on the loading lever, cylinder pin and wedge. Smooth one piece hardwood grips. With a varnished wooden five compartment American style case lined with hunter green velvet, which contains an "L" shaped screwdriver/nipple wrench, brass, two cavity bullet mold marked "COLTS/PATENT", brass powder flash with stars and eagle shield design, an empty Eley Brothers cap tin and approximately 7 lead bullets.

Condition: Very fine, with 80% of the original blue finish overall, strongest on the barrel with some minor pitting on the muzzle, high edge wear, areas of mixed brown patina and scattered handling marks and dings. With 60% of the original casehardened finish remains, faded to gray on the left side of the frame. The grip straps retain over half of the dark aged silver, with a mixed patina on the exposed brass. Grips are very fine with strong varnish, light edge wear and minor dings and dents. Mechanically fine, with mild battering of the safety notches. Fine case, with a minor crack some gouges and scratches on the lid, a repaired right corner, and some contact wear on the lining.
