Very Fine Black Powder Colt Single Action Army Revolver
This is a very fine example of a black powder Colt Single Action Army revolver manufactured in 1893. The revolver has a commercial high polish blue barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and backstrap. The frame, loading gate and hammer have a casehardened finish. The two-piece black hard rubber grips are checkered with the Rampant Colt trademark in an oval at the top. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the one-line, 'elongated block' legend: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The left side of the barrel is marked: "45 COLT." and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent date marking followed by the encircled Rampant Colt trademark. The matching serial number is marked on the frame, trigger guard and backstrap, the inside of the right grip panel has "1953" scratched into it and the assembly number "314" is marked on the loading gate. The accompanying factory letter (copy) verifies the serial number, 45/c caliber, 7 1/2" barrel, blue finish, grips are "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 to E.K Tryon Jr. & Company, Philadelphia, Pa. on May 31, 1893.

Very fine. The barrel retains approximately 70% of the slightly thinning original high polish finish with areas of smooth brown patina. The ejector housing retains approximately 60% bright original finish concentrated on the top and bottom with the outer surface having a smooth mottled brown patina. The cylinder retains approximately 40% plus bright original finish, mostly in the flutes, with the balance having a smooth brown patina. The grip straps and trigger guard bow have a smooth brown patina with 40% bright original finish mostly in the protected areas. The frame has dulled to a smooth gray with much of the original casehardening pattern remaining and strong bright original case colors in protected areas. Approximately 40% of the original bright fire blue finish remains on the back of the hammer. The grips are have faded to a pleasant brown and remain very fine with only a few overall scattered minor dings and crisp checkering. All markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
