Very Early Pre-War Dubiel Scoped Engraved Bolt Action Rifle
This is a nice example of a Dubiel sporting rifle with a Klein-Dialyt 2 3/4x scope on a Griffin & Howe side rail mount and base. The rifle features a stippled solid ribbed barrel with a hooded raised ramp front sight and three folding leafs on a raised quarter rib marked "100 YDS", "200 YDS and "300 YDS". The sides of the quarter rib are grooved for scope mounting. There is also a folding peep sight mounted on the top rear of the Mauser receiver. The top of the rib is marked "DUBIEL ARMS CO." and "CAL. .300 MAG" (.300 Mag H&H most likely). in panels ahead of the rear sight and "No. 504" behind the rear sight. The hinged floor plate has floral scroll engraved border and the trigger guard is engraved with the same pattern. The end of the bolt handle is engraved with a floral design. Though not confirmed as the work of noted engraver Rudolph Kornbrath, Dubiel and Kornbrath both worked together at Hoffman Arms, which was active from 1921 until 1930, and Kornbrath may have come over when Dubiel Arms was established. The rifle is mounted with a one piece checkered walnut stock with an engraved grip cap, horn forend, leather sling with quick release swivels and solid red recoil pad. The rifle is accompanied by a small scrapbook with pictures from a Texas hunting trip, 1937, '38, and '39, this rifle probably was owned by one of the individuals photographed.
