Receipt 169 for Adams & Company for an assayed sample of gold dust valued at $1,816. 26 by Kellog & Richter, sucessor to Curtis, Perry & Ward (USAO-SF). Document measures 6x8 3/4" and is printed on blue paper. Rough right edge. Small hole in upper left corner. Extremely RARE.
Kellogg & Richter assay documents are among the most desirable. They were in business from 1853 to 1954 and had an assay office in San Francisco. They are perhaps best known for their California gold coinage.

Kellogg & Richter was comprised of John C. Kellogg and G. F. Richter. Kellogg arrived in San Francisco during he fall of 1849 and sono gained employment with the Assay firm of Moffat & Co. By 1853 Kellogg had formed a partnership with former San Francisco United States Assay Office employee G. F. Richter. The dynamic team established an assay office and shortly thereafter were already privately striking $20 gold pieces.
