Gianni Versace (1946-1997)
Gianni Versace was an Italian fashion designer. He had studied architecture, but was already working in his mother’s atelier back then. From 1972 on, Versace worked as a designer in Milano for brands like Callaghan und Complice. He had his first Prêt-à-Porter show in 1979, and opened his first boutique in the same year. During the 1980s, Versace became known worldwide, and in 1985, he was honored with an exhibition in the Victoria and Albert Museum (the museum also held a retrospective in 2002). Gianni Versace was shot on the stairs in front of his Miami Beach villa in 1997. (cko)
