<B>Vernon Greene - Shadow Daily, Original Art Comic Strip Art (Ledger Syndicate, undated).</B></I> The Shadow, sometimes known as Kent Allard or Lamont Cranston, burst onto the entertainment scene in the February, 1929 pulp, <B>Fame and Fortune</B></I>, as a green-caped vigilante working the Wall Street district. The <I>Shadow</B></I> newspaper strip stayed close to the original version of the pulps, both in mood and execution; it had a four-year run from 1938-42. Vernon Greene proved to be a superb action-adventure artist, and his strips spread the Shadow's warning that, "The weed of crime bears bitter fruit."
