Known as Sphinx or King Tut, this very rare Art Deco Vaseline satin glass powder jar features a gold painted figural finial of a Sphinx head, while the jar is a cone shaped hexagon standing on three feet. This figural powder jar is shown and described on pages 44-45 in Whitmyer: Bedroom & Bathroom Glassware of the Depression Years. Beautifully executed with fine definition to the Sphinx features and an incredible Art Deco geometric shape. The jar with lid measures 5 x 5 1/4 inches. With the exception of a tiny sliver off one underneath corner of the lid and some wear to the gold paint both the lid and jar of this very rare powder jar in this very rare yellow vaseline color are in excellent condition. The jar fluoresces beautifully under black light
