Three documents signed by noted members of the prominent Vanderbilt family, including: an indenture signed by William H. Vanderbilt, "W. H. Vanderbilt," three pages on two adjoining sheets, January 1, 1876, for the purchase of land in Charlotte, New York; an LS signed by Cornelius Vanderbilt II, "C. Vanderbilt," one page, March 16, 1886, declining an invitation to "an oration by Gen'l Geo. A. Sheridan in behalf of the Grant Monument Association Fund"; and a receipt from the office of Cornelius Vanderbilt II, signed "C. Vanderbilt," December 2, 1892, for the sum of $3000. In overall very good to fine condition, with small tape repairs to edge splits on the indenture.

William H. Vanderbilt (1821-1885), an American railroad executive and philanthropist, was heir to the fortune of his father, Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt. Cornelius Vanderbilt II (1843-1899), son of William and grandson of the Commodore, was a businessman and philanthropist who succeeded his forefathers as head of the New York Central railroad.
