1902-1904 - This lot of two druggist items provides a fascinating glimpse into human health in the Vancouver Washington area during the turn of the 20th century. This massive 14" x 18" x 6" hardbound ledger includes thousands of prescriptions that would allow any curious reader to discover the story of health in the region. The prescriptions are hand written, and advise patients to take anything from mineral oil and bismuth to morphine and ammonium bromide. The bottle in this lot is a large, 12.5" tall, 4.25" wide clear glass stopper bottle. It appears that it once had a label under glass, but it now bears a simple pharmacy sticker in the front rectangular depression. The sticker indicates "Mineral Oil/ Red Cross Drug Store" and bears faint, illegible handwritten notes. The instructions advise users to take a dose of "One to two tablespoonfuls; children in proportion. This article is not absorbed in the system." If you`re curious about the health of the old pacific northwest, this is the right lot for you--learn about what illnesses, ailments, tinctures, and "cures" were made available to patients by dozens of doctors throughout the region. The bottle and clear glass stopper are in very fine condition, with some internal residue and age-standard wear. The ledger pages are tattered on the corners and foxed throughout There are also a small box from Red Cross Drug Store It measures about 2" x 1". -62240
