Van de VELDE, Henry.- Avant-projets et projets, études et dessins de travail, courrier et documents divers concernant la Bibliothèque centrale et l'Institut supérieur d'Histoire de l'Art et d'Archéologie de l'Université de Gand. 1933-1941. 523 dessins (plans, élévations, coupes et détails) au crayon ou à l'encre de Chine sur papier calque ou autre, quelques-uns en tirage "osalith", contre-calque ou autre (pliures, bon état général malgré quelques déchirures renforcées au papier collant ou non, petites déchirures dans les marges). Le tout sous 19 chemises (numérotées de 1 à 14 + 2 bis, 5 bis, 9 bis, 16 et 16 bis), 1 grande farde et 9 chemises de documents manuscrits ou dactylographiés.
UNIQUE SOURCE de ce très important dossier de l'un des monuments les plus éminents de l'architecture moderne internationale d'entre les deux guerres et dont les documents témoignent de tous les stades de sa genèse et de sa création :
1.- Avant-projets n° 1, 2 et 3 datés Décembre 1933 (chemise 1).
L'avant-projet n° 1 prévoyait e.a. une tour carrée centrale axée sur l'entrée principale dans la rue Rozier et qui trouvera son implantation définitive sur l'angle de l'ensemble dans l'avant-projet n° 2.
L'avant-projet n° 3 abandonne la tour pour un magasin de livres sur plan allongé.
2.- Avant-projet (n° 4) daté de juin-décembre 1934 (principalement chemises 2, 3 et 4)
Le grand intérêt de cet avant-projet reside dans les plans d'extension au sud de la bibliothèque prévoyant la construction des Facultés de Zoologie et de Pharmacie le long de la rue Blandijn.
Cette partie du projet ne fut pas exécutée mais a été remplacée après la Seconde Guerre par la Faculté de Philosophie et Lettres construite sous la direction d'Eugène Delatte (voir le dernier n° de ce catalogue).
3.- Avant-projet (n° 5) daté février 1935 (chemise 5)
Avant-projet débouchant sur le projet final.
4.- Projet final et exécution de mars 1935 jusqu'en 1941 (chemises 5 à 13, 5 bis et 9 bis).

A.- Un ensemble de feuilles non datées et sans logo concernant ce projet dans ses différents stades, y compris trois croquis de la main de Van de Velde ayant trait au sommet de la tour (chemise 14 et grande farde).
B.- Copies ou tirages postérieurs de documents de l'avant-projet de juin 1934 (chemise 2 bis).
C.- Etudes techniques du mobilier de la bibliothèque par la Firme Malcorps, 1929-1942 (chemises 16 et 16 bis).
D.- Courrier et documents divers manuscrits ou dactylographiés des années 1934-1935 et 1938-1945 ayant trait à ce projet, les divers changements de programme, problèmes d'exécution, les projets d'extension de l'ensemble avec d'autres facultés, etc. (9 chemises).
IHFZ Uniek en exclusief dossier met alle tot nog bewaard gebleven documenten betreffende één der belangrijkste realisaties van de moderne architectuur uit het Interbellum. Dit archief omvat 523 tekeningen in 19 mappen en één grote farde (plattegronden, opstanden, doorsneden en details in potlood of inkt op kalkpapier of papier of in blauwdruk; geplooid, goede algemene toestand ondanks enkele al dan niet versterkte inscheuringen). Aan de hand hiervan kan men de volgende stadia van ontwerp en realisatie onderscheiden: de voorontwerpen 1, 2 en 3 van December '33 met varianten qua inplanting en vormgeving van het grote boekenmagazijn; -- voorontwerp 4 van Juni-December '34 dat voorziet in de aanliggende uitbreiding met de gebouwen voor de Faculteit voor Dierkunde en Pharmacologie (nooit uitgevoerd, zie het laatste nummer van deze catalogus);-- voorontwerp 5 van Februari '35 met de laatste wijzigingen;-- finaal ontwerp en uitvoering van maart 1935 tot 1941. -- Bijgaand: een aantal ongedateerde bladen die behoren tot diverse ontwerpstadia met o.m. drie schetsen van Van de Velde i.v.m. de top van de toren; kopieën of latere blauwdrukken van voorontwerp 4 van Juni '34; technische studies betreffende het meubilair door de Firma Malcorps; briefwisseling en documenten in hand- of machineschrift der jaren 1934 - '35 en 1938 - '45 betreffende ontwerp en uitvoering van dit project, programmawijzigingen, planning van diverse uitbreidingen met andere faculteitsgebouwen, enz.
IHFZ Unique and exclusive archive concerning one the most remarkable creations of modern architecture of the Interbellum : the library of the University of Gent. A total of 523 leaves (original drawings in pencil or ink on tracing paper or paper, or in blueprint, mostly folded, some creased, some tears but in good overall condition) gives an insight in the origin and the creative process from the preparatory studies up to the definitive project. Added : autograph or dactylographed letters about the planning and realisation of this project.

After full payment, buyers are kindly requested to take away their purchases immediately after the auction or at the bookshop the next Tuesday after the auction 230 av. Louise, from 2 pm until 6 pm.
Goods will be send only after customers’ payment.
Packing and dispatching are entirely at the buyer’s own expense.
Books whose price exceed 100 (EUR) will be send by registered post.

Payment will be made in Belgian Francs. We do not accept credit cards neither cheques whose total amount exceed 200 (EUR) or cheques not validated for higher sum.
Terms of sale require buyers to pay immediately for their purchases, which means that lots will be released to them only when full and cleared payment as been received by us
In addition to the hammer price, the buyer has to pay a buyer’s premium of 21%, V.A.T. inclusive, all strictly in cash and in Ero's (EUR)
In case of original art and if the principles of the author’s rights are applicable, an extra 4% must be paid on each hammer price of at least 1250 EUR
All items are assumed to be in good condition unless otherwise stated. Buyers are kindly invited to carry out their own inspection of the lots they want to buy. All items to be auctioned are on view for several days prior to the sale.
Returning an item after the striking of the hammer will not be accepted, whatever the reason put forward. Those items bought on order must be inspected within 8 days after receipt. Any return after this term will be refused.
All items of the catalogue with the mention « n.c. » (non collationné = not inspected) are not subject to return. Neither are those sold in lots (two items or more) works consisting in multiple volumes and periodicals or series.
