Letter from Congressman Abbott Lawrence, Jr. to his cousin, Washington, D.C., Mar. 5, 1839, 2 pp., describing the event first in the Senate Chamber, then in the eastern portico "where Mr. Van Buren made a speech for General Jackson and himself. There was an immense crowd there." Description of the foreign diplomatic corps, in full court dress.
