COOK, JAMES. The Voyages of Captain Cook Round the World. London: Printed for Richard Phillips, 1809. Vols. I-VII. 16mo (6 1/4in.). Half calf and marbled boards; gilt-decorated spines, black and red morocco gilt labels. Vol. I with engraved frontispiece; with 2 fold-out maps and 28 illustrations. The last page of Vol. I is printed with: "End of the Second Volume," with a line inscribed through "Second" and "first" handwritten above it. Note: Vol. I has considerable condition issues (see below). Condition: Fair-Good. Rubbing/wear to spines and corners; wear and some tears to marbled paper. All volumes have some degree of toning and foxing throughout, including to fold-out maps/illustrations, and some fold-outs with creases and/or fold tears. A few small wormholes. Vol. I with bookplate on front pastedown for "Albert L. Ochs," and all volumes with an owner's stamp on title pages, "E. A. del Camino," and a modern bookseller label for "Berkelouw Bookdealers Sidney" on bottom of front pastedown. Vol. I condition issues, along with dark toning, include: Map 1 with fold tear; p. 3 with 1/2-in. tear/loss; vertical creases to pages up to at least p. 72; illus. 2 with fold tears; beginning after p. 161 there is splitting and multiple pages with corner and edge losses (some crumbled fragments present), including portions of text, continuing until fold-out between pp. 174-175; illus. 3 and 4 with old tissue backing repairs; tissue repair of page 180 and splitting; pp. 187-190 tear along gutter; p. 189 2-3in. tear within page; pp. 192-193 splitting; p. 237 edge tear; illus. 5 with tissue repair of fold tear/loss, with additional fold tears.
