Four diverse notables. Clipped, dark signatures of financier and diplomat Albert Gallatin (1761-1849), 3"x1", with moderate show-through of mounting glue; and American naval officer William Bainbridge (1774-1833), 3¼"x2", laid to heavier stock. Plus [Napoleon Bonaparte] (1769-1821), whose brilliance on the battlefield has made him perhaps the most important figure of post-Renaissance Europe. Document headed “Chamberlains of His Majesty The Emperor,” 1p, legal folio, [Paris], Jan 10, 1808. Listing of 15 names with designations, beside four of which is marked an “X.” Napoleon is known to have used such marks to indicate who on a list was chosen for an assignment or attendance at an event. Some creasing at bottom margin and some ink bleed of “X” marks. Also included is the first black female member of US Congress, Shirley Chisolm (b. 1924). Two signed photographs on covers of magazine sections from the New York Times and The Afro-American, plus one unnamed. Thin horizontal score across top of one photographic image. Lastly, a printed military broadside from the US War Department, 1p, 4to, [Washington, DC], ca. 1825. Regarding “Section of Bounty Lands,” determining legitimate heirs of soldiers “slain by the enemy, or otherwise died” and the allocation of bounty land grants. Overall VG with noted exceptions. $100-150
