<td width="100%">
Victorian Staffordshire figurine of a man holding up a scrolled parchment. Made England mid to

late 19th century.

Measures a little over 8 inches high.

Wonderfully modelled gentleman strides onto a rocky outcrop, naturalistic-looking and painted in

earthy outdoors tones in big bold patches of colour. With one hand he holds aloft a scrolled

document, while he looks over the other shoulder as though making a major proclamation or calling

upon a crowd to hear him out. Very fine garments, beautifully hand painted with fine detail. The

man might be a nobleman or an actor portraying one - possibly King John holding up the Magna

Carta. Blue cloak swirls behind him, adding to the sense of movement. The vigorous action is

complemented by the strong features on the unusually finely painted and modelled face.

Beautifully modelled features with exceptional painting of brows, eyes, mouth and even moustache.

Most of the figurine is in excellent condition, but very close observation shows a small chip on

the left-hand cuff, where the hand appears to have been rejoined.
