Antique Victorian earrings - black enamel Taille d'epergne, on 14 carat gold. 19th century (1860-70's).
Approx 1 1/4 inches long, excluding the loops.

Earrings are made of a number of parts:connecting them to the loops is a small, gold flower. This is attached to a triangle with a bar hidden on the bottom.

A loop connects the triangle to the next section - a flattened, oval loop-band. The loop allows the bottom part to swing with the movement of the wearer. A

ring swings through the oval band. At the bottom is a thistle or simplified crown and on the sides are little clover-like flowers on thin bands arching

around the circle. The top of the gold throughout is decorated with fine black enamel patterns that have a Celtic feel to them.

earrings have slightly worn, but clearly legible hallmarks for 14K.

very good condition.

note:pg 60 Victorian Jewelry explaines Taille d'epergne: .. a design was deeply engraved or cut into the metal and filled with powdered enamel. The piece

was then fired and polished. Usually black. 1860-70's.
