SEMI-AUTO CARBINE W/ 4-DIGIT SERIAL NUMBER. Cal. 30 Carb. S# 6742. Bbl. 18" marked behind front sight “INLAND MFG. DIV. GENERAL MOTORS 7-42”. L-type flip-up rear sight marked on left side w/ “S”. Blade front sight with protective ears marked “N” by the subcontractor Neidner Rifle Company. M1 carbines in their original-as-manufactured configuration are very scarce due to most having been through a rebuild program & reassembled w/ random parts. This rifle is especially desirable because of the very low four-digit serial number. Unmarked narrow front band w/ narrow aperture swivel. The straight cut slide is marked inside “PI”. Blued flat bolt marked “IO”. The ”INLAND” marked trigger housing is equipped with a checkered push-button safety. A long serrated clip release is marked “WI” on the front. Dogleg hammer marked w/ ordnance “bomb” & “H” in shield. Trigger guard pin has spring retainer. High wood “I” cut walnut stock correctly marked w/ circle “P” at end of grip. Marked in sling slot “crossed cannons” “flaming bomb” “LA” & “O”. Deep groove 2-rivet handguard marked “O” & “flaming bomb”. CONDITION: original finish stock set has seen service & exhibits the wear & handling marks expected of a military rifle of this vintage while presenting an attractive appearance. Notable dent & missing chip on left side of forend above magazine well. Metalwork retains approx. 60% worn, thinning original blue finish w/ scattered scratches & handling marks. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. (22-4134/RW). CURIO. $3,000-4,000.
