Obverse: in center 1912, scrolls above and below; above, around Admission Day Celebration; below, around Stockton, Cal.; beaded border. Reverse: across Hang-Town / No. 9 / N. S. G. W., small scroll above and below; around Compliments of Placerville Parlor; star at bottom edge, beaded border. Each year, upon anniversary of California's admission to Statehood, Sept. 9, 1850, Native Sons of the Golden West sponsors celebration in some one California city. Medal actually issued by N.S.G.W. "parlor" at Placerville, CA, 60 miles north of Stockton in Mother Lode country; nicknamed "Hangtown" because of numerous hangings there during Gold Rush period.
