KRAG RIFLE WITH RESTORATIONS. Cal. 30-40 Krag. S# 595. The 30" bbl. is fitted with early type stepped rear sight and integral high ear front base without blade. Handguard is of correct style and does not cover receiver ring. Muzzle is flat. Barrel attaches to stock with correct style front band which is solid without straps and has bump for ramrod. Brass tipped ramrod of correct type is present. Left side of action is marked “1894” “SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 595”. Serial number is not found on sideplate, loading gate, carrier or follower. There are some assembly numbers on front of gate. Bolt has correct style early extractor without bump for disassembly pin and early type grooved safety. Receiver is not notched for takedown pin. Stock has correct style flat buttplate without trap. Stock sourced from a later rifle, does have holes drilled under buttplate for cleaning rod and oiler. Toe has added wood and was originally for rounded type buttplate. Ramrod channel is quite wide and newly cut. CONDITION: good as restored. Barrel is mostly brown and gray patina. Action is gray to black with light pitting and splotches. Stock with old oil refinish has indecipherable inspector’s mark on left side. A circled “P” is on grip. Buttplate, bbl. bands and trigger guard retain a considerable amount of bright blue, perhaps as much as 80%. Bore is good, fairly shiny with light pitting throughout. Mechanically good. Safety will not engage. Rifle is accompanied by an old correct style sling. (01-21829/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-3,000.
