VERY FINE 1864 DATED TRENTON CONTRACT CIVIL AR
RIFLE MUSKET WITH BAYONET. Cal. .58. NSN. This is a well-preserved US Model 1861 contract rifle musket made by the Trenton Locomotive and Machine Company, Trenton New Jersey. Musket is in standard configuration w/ 40” bbl., leaf rear sight, 3 flat bbl. bands, buttplate & bayonet are both “US” surcharged. This is one of the last guns of their 11,000 contract made, no US government inspection marks on bbl. or wood, but crisp “NJ” cartouche showing New Jersey ownership & “S” stamped on left bbl. flat at breech. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: bayonet. CONDITION: fine overall, complete & original, iron which was bright & varnished, the varnish layer has discolored to a dingy mixed brown, still bright in protected areas, sharp edges & crisp markings. Stock is sound, well fit, sharp edges, sharp cartouche w/ scattered cosmetic blemishes. Action is crisp w/ bright shiny rifled bore. Attached bayonet is equally fine w/ staining on 18” blade.
