VERY EARLY RUGER NO. 1 RIFLE W/ SUPERB ENGRAVING &
GOLD INLAY BY ANGELO BEE W/ SCOPE. Cal. 243 Win. S# 6344. Bbl. 26" factory w/ one line address is fitted w/ usual quarter rib. Cal. is gold inlayed at left rear, surrounded by 1 1/2" triangles of shaded acanthus scroll on both sides, 2 gold bands are inlayed at breech end & a single band is around muzzle. Standard early action w/ non automatic safety. Has “SAFE” inlayed in gold. S# is also in gold, along w/ “No 1” on receiver ring. Action is engraved in near full coverage well done. Lg. open shaded acanthus scroll. This scroll surrounds unblued areas on sides depicting Western-American theme game animals in high relief gold inlay in detailed backgrounds. Right side depicts a pair of big horn rams on mesa top w/ higher mountains in background. Left side has an interesting scroll of a pair of javelina confronting a bobcat in desert setting. This scene is stamped w/ Angelo Bee logo under bobcat. Factory stocks are retained, buttstock is of very nicely crotch figured American walnut w/ usual Ruger grip cap & point pattern checkering. Long forend matches well w/ some crotch figure at front. Rifle is fitted w/ Leupold “Vari-XII” 3-9X scope w/ duplex reticle in Ruger rings. CONDITION: very fine overall. Metal parts retaining nearly all of their custom blue. Stocks w/ only a few minor marks in their original finish. Sharp shiny bore. Mechanically fine. Scope is very fine, exterior lacquer toning to purple. Scope is optically clear. PROVENANCE: Collection of Alan Bradley Shepherd. (20-4005/MGM). MODERN. $3,000-5,000.
