VERNER PANTON NINE "SPieGEL" LAMPS, 1969 manufactured by Louis Poulson metal 245/8 x 245/8 x 415/16 in. (62.5 x 62.5 x 12.5 cm) estimate: - $22,000-28,000 EXHIBITED VERNER PANTON - Lyset og farven, Trapholt Museum, Kolding, 1998 literature VERNER PANTON - lyset og farven, Trapholt Museum, Kolding, 1998, p. 48 Alexander von Vegesack and Mathias Remmele, eds., VERNER PANTON: THE COLLECTED WORKS, weil am rhein, 2000, p. 289 The Spiegel publishing house was one of Panton's largest interior commissions. He developed a color scheme for each individual floor, making the lobby and communal spaces red. For these rooms, he designed what would be known as the Spiegel Lamp, a square frame with a central reflective sphere that could be used individually or in groups (he preferred the latter) and on the ceiling or the wall (he used them on both). The design of these lamps was very similar to that of the Flowerpots seen directly from below: a spherical protruding center with a ring of light surrounding it.
