VASILY I. CHUIKOV: (1900 - 1982) Russian general who was an essential planner and director of the battle of Stalingrad, his forces headed the spearhead to Berlin, where he had the honor of receiving the surrender of the city from General Krebs. A great association piece, an uncommon A.E.S. across the text of a good content T.L.S. by WALTER ULBRICHT (1893 - 1973), East German Communist Party leader and Stalin's henchman, builder of the Berlin Wall, and responsible for East Germany's reconstruction and absolute obedience to Soviet dictates, 1p. 4to., Feb. 11, 1950, in Cyrillic informing Chuikov that the session of the Council of Ministers which met on Feb. 9, 1950, accepted two resolutions having to do with the delivery of reparations of 50 million German marks, to be given to the Minister of Industry, Administration of the Soviet Property in Germany, Land Ministry, etc. With a five-line, bold endorsement by Chuikov in blue greasepencil written diagonally across the text of the letter. Several other ink and greasepencil, unidentified by us. Rough left margin, else very good. $300-400
