Wolff 6939.. Ten stories, mostly German romantic or supernatural tales, related by passengers aboard the brig 'Gondola' en route to Barbados. Van Dyk, a Dutchman resident in London, joined with Sir John Bowring in translating the Batavian Anthology of Dutch poetry.ALSO WITH THIS LOT: (1) SCOTT ( Sir Walter ). This considerably predates what is generally regarded as the first successful use of gold blocking directly on cloth spines which Leighton used on vol two of Byron's works which he published in 1832.
