VAN BUREN-ADAMS HANDBILL. A wonderful 4 x 7.5" calligraphy handbill. "For President Martin Van Buren -- For Vice President -- Charles Francis Adams." In small print along bottom, "put this upon your barn, and it will prevent all incendiaries upon you grounds (one of us)." This piece of political folk art was issued by a member of the pro-Van Buren faction of New York Democrats known as the "Barnburners," in their support of these 2 as Free Soil candidates in 1848.
