This painting by Uwe Bremer from 1978 is titled ‘Einsteins Theorie in der 4. Dimension ‘ (Einstein’s theory in the fourth dimension). The German painter and printmaker is known for his surreal compositions inhabited by grotesque figures and mythical creatures. Bremer creates his strange imagery from a structure of lines and shapes, combining geometry, ornaments and writing. Filled with wit and irony, his works never completely disclose themselves to the viewer, but continue to amaze with their strange peculiarities. The composition is refined by highlights in gold leaf.



The painting is in good condition with minimal signs of age. It is signed and dated lower right ‘UWE BREMER 1978’. The narrow, black frame shows some signs of wear. Framed the work measures 82 x 101.5 cm, the stretcher frame measures 80 x 100 cm. (tfa)



Uwe Bremer (b. 1940)

Uwe Bremer was born near Erfurt in 1940. At the age of nine he moved with his family to Berlin, a year later to Hamburg. Between 1957 and 60 Bremer attended the art school Alsterdamm in Hamburg. A few years later he had his first exhibition. In 1964 he founded, the Werkstatt Rixdorfer Drucke together with couple of other artists. Bremer now lives and works in Gümse, Lower Saxony as a painter and graphic artist.
