Utah Volunteers' Monument to be Erected, c.1899. Being a then-current banknote size, this uniface "front," (8 x 4 inches), depicts military and naval symbols with officers in the corners. This is apparently a printer's proof as there are alignment symbols on the left and right margins. The blank back was likely to be for a fund-raiser or a receipt for money. Research has failed to find any other similar pieces, finished or otherwise.

As with other states, Utah called for volunteers at the onset of the Spanish American War in 1898. Eventually the volunteers fielded two batteries of the Utah Light Artillery, Troop A, Utah Cavalry and Troop I of Torrey's Roughriders Cavalry. Upon their return to Utah, a special monument was proposed and as written on the front "Every city and county in the state will furnish a stone for the monument." No monument was ever constructed.
