American statesman from Maryland and military leader during the Revolutionary War (1746–1805) who was injured and lost a leg in the Battle of Germantown; he later served as a delegate to the Continental Congress. ALS, one page both sides, 7.75 x 9.5, September 9, 1799. Letter to George Sibbald. In part: “I feel very much obliged by your friendly interference in the protection of my property in Georgia. I have, as you have truly stated, paid dearly for this property, & it would indeed be hard to have it wrested from me. I should hope however, as my Deeds are regularly recorded…that no process of Law could reach them.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, light show-through from writing to opposing sides, and a small tear to left edge from seal removal.
