Upton Sinclair signed ''The Cry for Justice: An Anthology of Social Protest'' as editor of the book. Hardcover first edition. Philadelphia: John C. Winston Company: 1915. Inscribed on a tipped-in leaf appearing before front free endpaper by Sinclair to Jack London: ''To Jack London / with gratitude from / Upton Sinclair''. The book is known as Sinclair's ''Socialist Bible,'' anthologizing important humanist readings by various writers and philosophers, with an introduction by London, a fellow Socialist. Book measures 5.5'' x 8'', runs 891pp. and is bound in red cloth boards with gilt lettering; pages are clean, binding is tight. Former owner's bookplate is affixed to front pastedown; tipped-in page has a hole formed by another bookplate attached to verso. Missing dustjacket. Very good to near fine.
