Upton Sinclair's ''The Jungle'' with a tipped-in typed letter signed by the American author. The Jungle Publishing Co.: New York: 1906. First edition, mixed issue, without first printing ''Sustainers' Edition'' label to front pastedown. Letter on Sinclair's personal stationery answers a fan's inquiry about signing books. Dated 18 December 1930, it reads: ''Dear Mr. Ingraham: I have your letter asking me to autograph two books of mine which you have in your possession. I have so many requests of this kind that I find it impossible to comply with all of them. Therefore I send you an autographed card which you can place in each book. Sincerely, Upton Sinclair''. Bound in original publisher's olive pictorial cloth. Some rubbing, and surface marks to boards, hinges cracked, front free endpaper lacking and 1.5'' closed tear at lower margin of page 1. Very good condition.
