<B>Upland, CA</B></I> - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 600 <B>The Commercial NB</B></I> Ch. # (P)9570<BR>A wonderful new discovery from one of the rarest banks in southern California's San Bernardino County. This institution is by far the more difficult of Upland's two issuers to obtain, having issued large notes only before disappearing forever in 1927. The census lists just four examples, one Fair, one Very Good, and two Very Fine. We sold both of the Very Fine examples as part of the Colver collection in 1999, with one becoming part of the Horwedel holdings and the other crossing the auction block again in 2005, where it realized $7130, somewhat over twice what it realized back in 1999. This piece is new to the census, and comes to us from a long time collector who obtained it many years ago from the family of W.C. Moore, who signs here as Cashier. While there are a few storage folds, this <B>Extremely Fine</B></I> note is as bright and crackling fresh as the day it was cut from the sheet, with incredible color and bright white paper.
