Unusual extended-blade folding lockback hunter-pattern knife by W. Thornhill & Co. of London. Approx. 13-1/8” overall, with 8-1/2” semi-clip blade with false edge. The blade is an unusual shape and the ricasso is marked “V.” [Crown] “R”, “W. Thornhill & Co. London”, and on the obverse “Thornhill” / “Trademark” / and the trademark itself. The hilt shows rounded German silver bolsters. Scales are checkered horned with 6 German silver pins and a center lockback release button/escutcheon plate and milled iron liners. The blade locks securely within the handle. There are two instruments in one of the top bolsters including a pair of tweezers and a prick. The blade shows considerable sharpening with small patches of spidering on both sides. Missing the original sheath. The release button locks the blade into the handle using a pin that fits into a hole in the blade. Circa approx. 1875. Hugh Hayes Collection. Est.: $800 - $1,600
