Unusual brace of weapons belonging to Civil War officer consisting of his Navy size revolver, Colt 1849 pocket, and Bowie knife all inscribed “Lt. G.N. Williams”. Lt. G.N. Williams was born in Canandaigua, New York where he lived all his lifeuntil he died in 1902. It 1861 he suspended his legal studies at University and entered the 98th New York infantry where his was commissioned as a 1st Lt. and rose to the rank of Capt. and he participated in the folowing engagements: Seige of Yorktown, Williamsburg, Bottom’s Bridge, Savage Station, Fair Oaks and Malvern Hill and he is constantly mentioned in unit records. Number 1: Metropolitan Arms Company Navy sizedrevolver in .36 caliber percussion, serial number 19 in very good condition showing 20% to 40% original blue with traces of case hardening drifting to silver. The varnish wood grips show 10% to 20% original varnish with some small losses and slight wear at the edges. The metal is very good plus. All matching visible serial numbers. Refer Flayderman 7A – 063. The back strap is period inscribed “To Lieut. G. N. Williams from the citizens of Canandaigua Jan. 12th, 1862”.
