Unusual/Unique World War I Remington-UMC Model 1911 Test Pistol with Nazi Eagle N Proof Serial Number 6 and Holster

This is an original WWI manufactured Remington-UMC, U.S. Army Model 1911 contract pistol, that was renumbered and test by the Germans after WWI. These rare pistols were manufactured by Remington Arms-U.M.C. Co., Bridgeport, Connecticut Works, in late 1918/early 1919 in their own serial numbers from 1 to 21,676. After manufacture this pistol was obtained by the Germans for some kind of test program for evaluation, the original serial number was polished off and was restamped "EX 6" next to a WWII "Eagle/N" commercial proof. This pistol retains the original two block markings of "PATENTED DEC.19.1905/FEB.14.1911.AUG.19.1913./COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO." and "MANUFACTURED BY/REMINGTON ARMS UMC CO. INC./BRIDGEPORT. CONN.U.S.A.", with the circled "REMINGTON/UMC" between the two blocks. The right side of the slide has the two-line markings "MODEL OF 1911/U.S. ARMY CALIBER .45". The left side of the frame extension is stamped with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and the final U.S. Government inspector's initials "E.E.C./Eagle Head/E" Ordnance proof over the magazine release button. A separated "H" and "P" proofs are stamped over the chamber area with a capital "J" stamped on the left side of the lug. There is a single "E" provisional inspection mark is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard bow, on the rear of the slide above the firing pin stop. The pistol is complete with one all blue flat base magazine and original WWII unmarked brown leather holster.

Manufucture: Remington UMC
Model: M1911
BBL: 5 inch round
Stock:
Guage: 45 ACP
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: EX6

Very fine with 85% of the refurbished blue finish overall. Edge and high spot wear with finish loss where the serial number was removed and on the grip straps. The walnut grips are fine with a nice dark brown color overall, good checkering and minor handling marks. This is definitely a rare/scarce Remington-UMC pistol in its own right and added the fact that it was reproofed by the Germans only adds to its unique history.
