Unusual General LaFayette Framed Textile.
Unusual General LaFayette Framed Textile. This lot features a framed and remarkably well-preserved textile honoring Marquis de Lafayette, the French gentleman and adventurer who fought beside colonists during the American Revolution. The textile measures 15" x 13" and is framed to an overall size of 19" x 17". The textile features a portrait of LaFayette and encircling this portrait are the words "Genl. La Fayette The Nation's Guest." Surrounding this portion is a copy of the addresses given by the governor of Pennsylvania, John Shulze and General Lafayette himself. The top portion of the textile features a view of Lafayette arriving at Independence Hall on September 28, 1824. The lower portion depicts LaFayette arriving in New York harbor on August 17th of that same year. This is an impressive piece of memorabilia, which displays in excellent condition with only a few minor places where the textile has succumbed to some staining. The upper left corner is most affected; however, the text and graphics are still quite visible.
