Unusual Asian pole arm with shaft, probably Chinese, showing engraved brass side plates in the form of bats. An unusual form where the center portion of the pole arm holds a wide blade and is reinforced by the 2 brasssupports. The front blade measures 10-1/2" across, the metal portion of the center piece measures 31", with a 3" wide front blade. The quality of the forging work is very good; a portion of the hardwood shaft whichappears original is retained, but has been shortened 6" to 12", and now measures 84". The only example of this style Asian pole arm we have seen in selling fine antique arms for over 40 years. Note: Bats were a symbol frequently used by Oriental royalty. Est.: $750-$1,500
