Unusual Antique Belgian Large-Bore Boxlock Single-Shot Flintlock Pistol, NVSN, .54 cal., 5'' octagonal barrel made without sights has a spring-actuated dagger hinged beneath and an oval ''ELG/(star)'' Liege proof mark at left; boxlock frame made integral with barrel has central flint cock, spring-actuated frizzen and sliding safety bar, is loosely engraved on both sides, has loop trigger guard and inner gripstrap, one-piece ''bird's head''-shaped varnished hardwood grip with raised panels at frame juncture. Mfg'd ca. 1840s. Condition is good to very good retaining no original finishes but an overall lightly-etched dark brown color with good edges and clear markings/engraving. Grip is solid with occasional marks and 40% original varnish. Action is strong but sliding safety bar does not fully engage the frizzen; smoothbore is clean with 2'' of heavy black-powder erosion at muzzle. Est.: $400-$600. (Antique)(John Ackerman collection)
