Aurangzeb Alamgir (AH 1068-1118 /1658-1707 AD), Poonamali or Punamali /Poonamlee Mint, Copper ½ Paisa (½ Dam), AH 1115/47 RY, Obv: Persian legend "Mubarak julus sana 1115 Hijri" in tughra style, Rev: Persian legend "zarb Poonamali (Poo" at the bottom & "Namali" in 2nd line) is completely visible with 47 ry at the top, 6.20g, 18.10mm, (Unpublished Type), about extremely fine, Extremely Rare.
Note: The intriguing aspect of the mint name 'Punamali' lies in its stylistic presentation, with 'Pu' elegantly inscribed in the first line and 'Namali' in the second line. While Poonamali or Punamali is commonly associated with 'Poonamallee' or 'Poovirundhavalli,' a suburb situated approximately 13 miles from Chennai with an old fort now in ruins, it is also linked to the fortress at Tiruchirappalli. Determining the specific location where these coins were minted, whether at Poonamallee or Tiruchirappalli, poses a challenge due to historical ambiguities.
