<B>Unmounted Victorian Shell Portrait Cameo</B></I><BR><BR>The carved shell portrait cameo, depicting a gentleman's profile, measures 45.00 x 35.00 x 3.50 mm. The bottom edge of the cameo is inscribed, <I>N. 185 King</B></I> The reverse is inscribed, <I>N. 185, J. C. King, Boston, 28th May 1849</B></I><BR><BR><I>This cameo is attributed to John Crookshanks King (1806 - 1882), a Scottish born machinist and sculptor, who immigrated to the United States in 1829. He was actively modeling busts and cameos of important public figures in New Orleans from 1837 to 1840, prior to continuing his craft in Boston.</B></I> <B>Condition Report:</B> Unmounted Stone<BR><BR>Shell Cameo<BR><BR>Shapes: Oval<BR><BR>Notes: The cameo is slightly scratched on the back and is engraved.
